Fire [3/3]
Last night I heard cracking outside the window as Ken returned home. I asked him if it were raining. He said no, that it was scary outside. A building across the street was on fire. I ran to the window. The entire roof was aflame. I imagined I could almost feel the heat. The fire trucks came quickly and soon jets of water were shoot across the building. Firemen climbed up ladders and through the windows. One shot water from his perch on a top a hook and ladder.
In 30 minutes it was over. The fire was becoming embers. A few spots glowed orange, and applause rose from the street. At the restaurant across the street, diners resumed their meals.
