The Gates part deux

The Gates project was finally unveiled this morning, and thousands of people came to see them finally unfurled. I emerged from the Columbus Circle subway stop into groups taking photographs. Along the way, workers handed out swatches of the material from which the flags are made. Everyone felt to be in a festive mood. I overheard one person ask another if they had ever seen so many people in the park. "Yes," came the reply, "but only in the summer."
