In the summer of 2004, I spent three and a half weeks travelling through Turkey with my roommate Ed. I had lamented not having the time to visit on an earlier trip through the middle east, and he invited me to accompany him on his vacation. He planned to trek through the Kackar mountains and then explore the eastern areas of the country, having visited the west some nine years ago. I looked at the map, decided I didn't need to hang out on the beach, and packed my bags.
